Community
We were made to experience the fullness of God’s love in community, side by side with brothers and sisters who hold us up when we would otherwise fall.
There is no fall of a “great” man or woman of God that is not preceded by many seasons of loneliness and isolation. We were crafted to function in a family, and when the enemy successfully isolates us, we miss out on great portions of our inheritance, rendering us completely inert. The character of Jesus’s love is wide, deep, powerful and mysterious, and it will take every living believer to fully embody His person on earth.
Pursuing His voice is not a solo activity. It is not something you just do in your quiet time. When you ask God to speak to you, he will always do so and often when He does He will confirm it through multiple sources.
In this way the body is built up in unity and interdependence. “Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good.” (1 Cor. 12:7).
Submitting to one and other in love is difficult, it involves putting to death our pride and trusting God to lead us through places outside of our control.
God created this system of interdependence so that the Body could grow up in maturity while abounding in humility. There are no exceptions. If you are crying out to hear God consistently in your life, but you have no one you trust and submit to safely, you will always be limited in what you are able to receive and understand from Him.
No matter how much we mature in Christ, we can never outgrow our brokenness. Brokenness in the context of community can become the doorway to greater humility and intimacy. But if we allow that brokenness to lead us away from our brothers and sisters, hiding the true state of our hearts, we doom ourselves to a one-on-one fight with the enemy, a fight we were not designed to win.
