Visions
How to see Visions.
Have you ever noticed how visual the Bible is? I mean, think about it for a second. God hardly ever deals with abstract concepts; instead, He is constantly using metaphors and imagery to give substance to the eternal qualities of His character.
This was true for the writers of the new and old testament, and it is true for you today! When He speaks to you His message can often come in a visual form. For the sake of simplicity I am going to break down “visions” into two categories; Open visions, and Closed visions.
Open visions are what I call it when Heavenly encounters superimpose themselves over the physical world around us. See Revelation
“I turned around to see the voice that was speaking to me. And when I turned I saw seven golden lampstands”
John the revelator seems to be saying that with his physical eyes he turned and saw the scenes of revelation played out. Something similar happened to Ezekiel.
Closed Visions primarily take place in your redeemed imagination. See Acts
“He became hungry and wanted something to eat, and while the meal was being prepared, he fell into a trance. He saw heaven opened and something like a large sheet being let down to earth by its four corners. It contained all kinds of four-footed animals, as well as reptiles and birds.”
One of these categories may seem far more legitimate and powerful than the other, but it is important to remember that both are visions from God and were significant for the person receiving them.
We typically see Open Visions happen for those called to the office of Prophet.
While all of God’s children were made to receive His voice in our redeemed imagination. So next time you are praying with your eyes closed, don't be surprised when you start to see images in your mind. It is very possible that those are God, reaching back to you as you reach out to Him.
